Strips - Solution

Puzzle Location: Tiburon Ferry Terminal
Next Puzzle: Minigames

By looking at the letters on the back of the strips, they can be separated into two groups of ten, one with letters oriented horizontally, and one with letters oriented vertically.

The next step is to weave the horizontal the vertical strips together, making a 10 x 10 grid. Guiding the construction of the weave is the need to make a path that leads from "BIRTH" (upper left corner) to "DEATH" (lower right corner). Helpful in this regard is recognition of certain constraints on the maze format: paths cannot go off the edge of the weave and dead-ends will always end in the middle of a square.

The fully constructed weave looks like this:

Now comes the physically tricky part: turning the weave over to read the message on the back. To aid teams, we provided a dozen or so paperclips per puzzle.

If one follows the path from "BIRTH" to "DEATH" and reads a letter per square, the solution reads
